Wow, What a trip. What a bunch of mixed emotions to leave Nicaragua. While I was very excited to get home, it was also sad to leave Cairo and Arlen in Managua. I have fond memories of the farewell we received in Esteli from the pastors and others who attended the doctrine course. Following our Friday departure from Esteli, we enjoyed an overnight in Selva Negra, a coffee plantation high in the mountains of Nicaragua. We had good fellowship there and plenty of rich Nica coffee! We also enjoyed praying for Cairo and Arlen while we were there. We then paid a quick visit Jinotega, another city north of Selva Negra, where there may be ministry possibilities in the future. Following that we went to Managua where we spent the night prior to our departure on Sunday.
It is always sobering to visit a country where per capita income is so low. While we can't imagine living in such conditions, the people there are very happy and so proud of their country. It brings home the truth that people really CAN get by without many of life's so-called necessities.
I left Nicaragua knowing there is much still to be done there, and also with a renewed awareness of the wealthiness of our society in contrast to the Third World. While I was tired from the work of the journey, I was refreshed in many ways too. It was great to spend focused time together with Steve, Vern, Cairo and Arlen. All our friendships were deepened. I was blessed by the warmth and response of the Nicaraguans during the doctrine course. We did field some interesting and challenging questions too!
I thank you all for the opportunity to be part of this ministry in 2008. Thanks for your prayer support and you need to know that prayers were answered! We ALL stayed healthy; there was good harmony on the team, and even the pesky bulb stayed lit until we really didn't need it any more. God is faithful!
Blessings,
Cassius
